Good Morning!
A couple of you have asked me about AP resources for social studies - & I wanted to provide you some information.
First, a reminder that the ALSDE does not request submissions for AP Texts for review - most likely because recommendations for texts for AP courses come directly from the College Board, the designer of those exams. By definition, the purchase of AP books becomes an "off-list adoption" item. To assist you with that, we procure "local contracts" for 6 years. That guarantees the availability of the text at a set price for Alabama districts during that time period - which is what happens with a state adoption. Once we have that local contract from their company, we post them on our website for your easy access. You can submit that document to the state after your local board vote, as your "letter" from the publisher for off-list adoption (why they didn't participation in the process...because...they weren't asked to submit). Those contracts typically list what they have for review with pricing, ISBN #s, etc.
Option #1 - Pearson
One option, Pearson, is present on our caravan, as they have a couple of books which have been reviewed for state-adoption, along with their suite for AP. Brady Svec is the Pearson representative at our caravan,
& you can contact him for samples & info from Pearson: brady.svec@pearson.com. Pearson's local contracts are available for download in the Local Contracts section of our Resources page.
Option #2 - BFW
Another option is BFW, & their representative is Cindy Rabinow. BFW also has a book which has been reviewed for state adoption, but they were unable to participate
in our caravan, as they did last year for their science resources. But BFW is also a trusted AP resource & partner of ours at Publishers' Warehouse, so we are sharing a video with you from Cindy & BFW that was made
specifically for Alabama. Please forward this email/video along to your social studies committee & whomever in your district may be reviewing AP materials. BFW's local contracts is also available for download in the
Local Contracts section of our Resources page.
We are also still in-process of assimilating statewide local contracts for other AP materials, other social studies electives in the course of study for which reviews were not requested, & Arts Education texts which are in addition to the state reviewed items. Those can be found later in the winter & spring on our website (we actually have 1 Arts Ed text posted already).
⚠️ A reminder that you would recommend adopting these books "off-list" by your local board of education, & complete a separate form to Dr. Jones after their approval. This local adoption allows you to use your state funds to purchase these books. From there, you will handle the purchase just like any other text:
- Get a quote directly from the publisher
- Make a PO out to Publishers' Warehouse
- Send both the quote & the PO to us via Email
This guarantees you no shipping charges on your purchases.
See you at the Caravan!
